AN INTERVIEW WITH CORY ROBERTS

Hello Cory, what is your role on The Jungle Book?
I'm the Set and Costume Designer

What attracted you to the show?
The opportunity to work with this production company

Who's your favourite character?
Baloo

Are you similar to to him/her?
yes, i too uncontrollably break into song and have bear like habit of gaining winter weight

Do you have a favourite line or scene?
Anything with MAO, TABIQUI and IKKI, they remind me of home

What would you say to anyone who hasn't seen the show yet?
Its old school theatrical story telling at its best without gimmicks

What have you done in the past in your career?
Set and Costume Design for Cabaret, The Tempest and Parzival for SPS Theatre.
Confessions of Gordon Brown for Many Rivers Productions at trafalgar studios.

How did you get into your profession?I took a tangent from my fine art training at art school by suggestion from tutors that theatre design was the career for me, 3 years of training and a year at SPS Theatre and here I am.

Do you have any advice for any aspiring set or costume designers?
Hold out for the right jobs and train up so you are ready for it when it arrives.

What are you up to when The Jungle Book ends?
Taking a short break then moving onto the next show and also continuing writing "Edinburgh Fringe" a short play located in a Scottish hairdressers.
